Understanding SpamAssassin Payload Scores

Read time: 4 minutes

Before an email reaches a human inbox, it undergoes algorithmic scrutiny by open-source and proprietary spam evaluation engines. Chief among them is SpamAssassin the open-source benchmark used by major mail servers worldwide.

How Spam Scoring Works

SpamAssassin tests your email payload against hundreds of predefined rules. Every violation adds points to your score. The higher your score, the higher the likelihood your email gets redirected to spam or rejected outright.

"A SpamAssassin score below 3.0 is required for consistent primary inbox placement."
